Early Development
Chris is an expert in translational medicine, clinical pharmacology and early development. Dual accredited in General Internal Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, he has led the design and medical oversight of numerous first-in-human and early phase studies, integrating translational science with pragmatic development plans. His focus is accelerating the transition from preclinical research to the clinic; at tranScrip he supports clients through this process, often serving as interim Chief Medical Officer.
He joined industry in 2021 after fourteen years as a physician-scientist, including a postdoctoral NIHR Clinical Lectureship, working as a Phase I investigator, conducting experimental medicine studies and a secondment to NICE. At GSK he was Senior Director in the Respiratory & Immunology Research Unit, with responsibilities from target identification to marketing authorisation submissions.
His experience spans monoclonals, oligonucleotides and small molecules, across multiple therapeutic areas including cardiovascular, nephrology, respiratory, neuroscience and rare diseases; his broad clinical training enables him to transition seamlessly between therapeutic areas. He collaborates closely with commercial, regulatory and safety colleagues to progress molecules into medicines.
Chris completed his medical degree at the University of Cambridge and University College London, before reading for his PhD at King’s College London. Prior to joining industry, he was awarded a NIHR Clinical Lectureship and during this time was a Phase 1 investigator, conducted experimental medicine studies in healthy participants and was seconded to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) to support guideline development. At GSK he chaired both the Clinical Radiation Advisory Group, and the Clinical Insight Seminars.
Chris is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and a fellow of the Higher Education Academy, the British Pharmacological Society and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine. He sits on several committees at the British Pharmacological Society.
